Our founder Lanajó Brown, began a quest in early 2021 amidst the rising greed of the NFT art market where everything was about profit and nothing else. Being an artist, he stood very indifferently to the thought of commercialising art only as an investment tool. “If we took the easy route and sold bottles of air to a bunch of fools, no matter how many millions we would’ve made, we just would not have any non malicious reason for existing today.” He wanted art to show and be more than just an investment tool. More of what an artist truly wants to create and what a collector truly wants to collect, “not just because everybody else wants it but because you want it.” Now that is a niche that only the ambitious can attain and a challenge he dared to achieve and he persevered to maintain.
While Lanajó successfully created unique and desirable art, he also saw the need to build an online space for relevant artists. A platform where their art can be accessed and kept in the light after the art shows and the press coverages to then go into the hands of true art collectors, rather than to be stored in some obscured storage facility. He consulted artists and potential collectors to validate the market and then selected upcoming artists to establish who were already excellent with their craft. The focus was on the provenance of new and rare art that younger collectors would find more relatable.
All this was done not for the love of what was hype or art that was famous but for the love of creating true art along with the continued traditions of collecting contemporary art and preserving Caribbean expressions. So, the brand ARTIECE came to life in 2023 as a unique intersection of great artists and art collectors who are continuously interested in keeping Caribbean expressions alive and acquiring art both as an aesthetic and cultural investment. ARTIECE developed a dealership network and art advisory services to prime the rather abrasive art market so that our artists can focus on and become better at their crafts. Along the years we successfully grew an unparalleled, private collection of art and eclectic artisans with a profound brand for aficionados in pursuit of extraordinary, contemporary Caribbean art. Today many of our pieces can be found in prestigious lounges, villas and cherished by renowned private collectors.
